Markets, food hubs and lockers

Recent discussions within our internal group have highlighted the reciprocal local benefits that can emerge from the promotion of regional food events. When we asked for interest in Calderdale’s plans for new producer markets, producers from around Kirklees were interested, and there was reciprocal interest from Calderdale in monthly markets at the Huddersfield Food Circle.

This led to discussions about the benefits of local food hubs for drop offs and deliveries across the region, including the potential of using refrigerated grocery lockers, which are being used by a number of larger producers already. This raises the question of where food hubs and lockers could be located?

As we move forward with plans to develop the regional food system, we need input about the usefulness and viability of these ideas, so please feel free to get in touch. We are also working on developing more producer events around the region, and we plan to attend a number of agricultural shows this summer.  More information on these things to follow soon.
